May V.I.B.E. Meeting Date/Location Change

The Blossburg V.I.B.E. General Meeting will be held May 19th, 6 pm at the the Brick Restaurant due to the Coal Festival falling on our regular meeting date. The Fall Festival Team will meet to work on the 2010 Fall Festival planning and then V.I.B.E. will hold a quick meeting to cover any updates and administrative matters. All are welcome to attend.

Blossburg V.I.B.E. Restructures Action Teams

03/16/2010 - BLOSSBURG - Blossburg V.I.B.E. officers met on March 9th, 2010 to restructure the V.I.B.E. action teams to better align with today's economic activity and current initiatives. V.I.B.E. has organized the action teams into 5 core areas: Economic Restructuring, Communication and Promotion, Design, Youth Involvement, and Community Vitality. Josh Jones announced the restructuring effort at the March Blossburg Borough Council meeting stating the organization has restructured itself to better serve the needs of the community.

The restructuring of the action teams will give us greater visibility to the overall plan that was put in place by the Visioning Sessions held in 2004 which lead to the formation or our organization.  At the restructuring meeting, we also discussed the need to keep our lines of communication open to our current and potential members.  V.I.B.E. has redesigned the website and created a new Facebook Fan Page to enable better communication and engagement with community members who use different mediums for receiving news.  V.I.B.E. will also continue to use the V.I.B.E. e-mail list. Blossburg V.I.B.E. Members Set Date for 2010 Fall Festival

02/24/2010 - BLOSSBURG - Blossburg V.I.B.E. set the date for the 2010 Fall Festival at the February 2010 General Meeting. The 2010 Fall Festival will be held Sunday, October 17th in the Riverside Parking lot. Members in attendance are very excited to be getting an early start on the project. We are current gathering ideas and looking for input. We've also updated the Fall Festival web page and have submitted the event to the VisitPA website.

BLOSSBURG V.I.B.E. WELCOMES SKATEPARK DEMO TO ISLAND PARK

BLOSSBURG -- Blossburg V.I.B.E. will host the American Ramp Company 2009 skate park demonstration team at the newly resurfaced basketball court at Island Park in Blossburg on Tuesday, Aug. 11, 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.

American Ramp Company will bring ramps that represent the three most popular build options and allow local skaters to test ride the equipment for the new Vibe Park skateboarding area, which is on schedule for opening in October. Skateboarders, inline skaters, and BMX riders can participate in the demonstration.

In addition to the skating exhibition, there will be music, contests and giveaways. T-shirts with the Vibe Park logo will also be available for purchase.

Blossburg V.I.B.E. members Jill Nickerson and Heidi Jones have been working on building a skateboarding and in-line skating area at Island Park for several years. They helped the Borough of Blossburg successfully apply for a Small Communities grant from the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources that will provide approximately two-thirds of the $60,000 estimated cost of the project.

"I'm very excited to see our local skaters test the equipment we're evaluating for the park," Nickerson said. "Heidi and I really appreciate the support we've received from borough council and the recreation board to implement this project. We think the skate park will really benefit the community by giving the skaters a safer place to practice their skills."

Participants under 18 must have legal guardian sign a waiver. All participants must wear helmets to receive a wristband to ride. The demonstration is free of charge.
