I'm sure we've all seen and wondered about the beautiful panther who recently took up residence in front of the high school. If you're as curious about him as I was; Mr. Lindner filled me in on the specifics: The panther traveled here from West Virginia. I have been looking for one for about ten years now. On the way home from a trip this summer, I spied this fellow in the corner of a lot where they sold a variety of antiques and statues. I guesstimate his weight at around 700 + pounds. They loaded him on my truck with a forklift and George Lloyd helped get him unloaded here. One of Mr. Swingle's classes is doing the computation and design for the concrete pedestal we will place him on. Several students are digging the footer as a community service project. We hope to have him in place for Homecoming Weekend.

The American Legion Post #572 Ladies Auxiliary donated $500.00 towards packages which were sent to overseas troops. Thanks to the Ladies Auxiliary, the Churches for helping to get the word out for the names and addresses; and the Post Office group for their help. Commander Jim Holleman wants to thank Sue Berguson for her tireless efforts when buying (locally) enough items for each veteran to have two boxes; for packing and also preparing the customs documents. Post Adjutant Sally Ward, Sue Berguson and her one year old son Danny, and Commander Jim filled three big carts to overflowing. Sue's son Ryan, is on duty with other young men from our area, so she had a list of items he had talked about and Jim's list was also used. The Post will be sending boxes again. If you have a family member or know of a local vet serving anywhere overseas, call Jim Holleman at 638-2527, or Sally Ward at 638-2803. Please pray for all our troops no matter where they are stationed.
