The Friends of the Blossburg Memorial Library met on Tuesday September 9th to discuss the upcoming Used Book Sale scheduled for October 21st through the 25th. It will be held in the Community Room of the Library. The Friends are now accepting donations of used books, games, videos, DVDs, CDs and cassette tapes that are in good condition. No Readers Digest Condensed Books, magazines or Text Books please. Hours will be noon to 8 PM Tuesday through Thursday, Noon to 5 PM on Friday and 8 AM to 4 PM on Saturday. There will be an advance sale open to Friends members only on Monday, October 20th from 4 PM to 8 PM. New memberships will be available that evening.
There will be a work bee on Thursday, September 18th to sort and price books for the sale. There is a lot of work to be done between now and the sale and volunteers are urgently needed. The next regular meeting of the Friends will be held on October 14th at 6:30 PM.
The Friends have recently contributed $1300 to enable the Library to participate in the Gates Foundation funding for new computers to be used for internet access. They also plan to contribute another $2600 in matching funds toward the Gates Foundation grants to be awarded in 2009. The new computers have also made it possible for the Library to offer free computer training classes for senior citizens. Five individuals took part in the training sessions taught in July by Friends President, John Kaiser. The Blossburg Library plans to offer additional classes in November.
