How fast a year goes by for three Blossburg residents who celebrated birthdays in July. Corey Onks turned 10 yrs old, he is the son of Patricia and Jeryl Onks of Davis Street. Jeryl Onks also celebrated a birthday near the end of July and their friend Lonny Frost also shared a birthday
with them.
The Arnot Prebyterian Youth Group are planning an indoor yard sale at the Arnot Presbyterian Church (Church St.) on Aug. 10-11, beginning at 9am each day.
A note from Jennifer Person: I want to thank all the people that have sent me packages through this long deployment especially the VFW post your package made it to several different countries before making it here but it was greatly appreciated. Its hard to believe well over a year ago Sally asked me to speak at the Memorial Day Ceremony in downtown Blossburg. I was honored. I had no idea that morning I would be speaking or what I would talk about, but I shared with you the few stories that I had from my previous deployment and my fears and anticipation for the upcoming deployment. With a few tears in the audidance as well as my mother. I wanted to share that even though you hear so much bad about the war we are doing some good and during this deployment we had our share of good and bad to include the loss of 5 of our soldiers as well as a 90 day extension, but I realized that I was right where I was meant to be. Never had I imagined I would stand in an Iraqi Police Station and teach them police relations a 24 year old female in a Muslim country teaching them how to be police officers. I am proud to serve my country and to help build a future for Iraq and even though it is uncertain the outcome of this war in the past 14 months I have seen HOPE. As this deployment is finally coming to a close and I just wanted to thank each and everyone of you who sent packages or just asked my mom how I was its wonderful to know you care. Thank you once again to the VFW and all its members. Thank You Sgt Jennifer Person 57th Military Police Company Baghdad Iraq June 2006-September 2007.
