The Kiwanis Club of Blossburg was chartered in 1973 under the sponsorship of the Kiwanis Club of Mansfield. This club was formed to benefit the community, especially the youth. Kiwanis meetings are every Thursday at 6:30pm at the Kiwanis Community Center on Island Park.

The lobster bake meal comes with 1 dozen mussels, a 1lb lobster, salt potatoes, salad, corn on the cob, and a boiled egg (a New England thing for luck). There are usually extra mussels; also hot dogs and burgers are available for those who don't care for seafood.
On Aug. 15 Tioga County Concerned Citizens Committee (TCCCC) members Faye Davies-Kuzneski and Howard Shapiro presented an environmental program to the individuals attending the Partners In Progress (PIP) summer camp at the Kiwanis Building on Island Park. Using the Good Neighbors publication prepared by the Chesapeake Bay Foundation as a guide, Faye explained what each of us can do to help keep the water clean and reduce pollution. She discussed the importance of conserving water and not polluting the waterways. She also encouraged everyone to do their part by disposing of litter properly and not throwing it along the side of the road. Howard distributed copies of the Good-Bye Orange Water activity books prepared by St. Vincent University of Latrobe, PA. He explained to the students how acid mine drainage is effecting the Upper Tioga River watershed and talked about what makes the Tioga River orange. Howard performed several water testing experiments so that the students could see the effects of different chemicals in the water and witness the reaction that they create.
