Happy birthday to Clinton Onks, who will celebrate on August 31.
Blossburg’s Visions in Business and Entertainment (VIBE) group will be meeting on Wednesday, August 26, in the Kiwanis Building at Island Park. The meeting begins at 6:00 PM and is open to the public. Come to the meeting to get information about current projects and upcoming events. In addition to bringing great activities to the Blossburg area, VIBE is working to revitalize downtown. You may have noticed work being done on the exterior of the theater on Main Street. Improvements will soon be made to The Brick restaurant as well.
This Saturday, August 29, there will be a chicken barbeque to benefit the Arnot Presbyterian Church siding fund. Halves and dinners will be sold in the parking lot of the Holiday Market, beginning at 10:30. This barbeque is hosted by the Blossburg Kiwanis.
Tony Lupkowski recently represented the William B. Wilson Post 572 at the American Legion Convention in Pittsburgh. This is the first convention that Chaplain Lupkowski has attended, and he stated that it was very interesting. On a side note, his daughter Ann is a former author of the News & Views column. She wrote this column during her Junior and Senior years at the North Penn High School.
Monday was the first day of school in Blossburg, and its arrival brought some familiar sights. Bicycles whizzed on the streets, groups of children chattered excitedly as they walked along, and smiling teachers greeted students as they arrived. The bright yellow parade of the morning buses formed its sidewalk lineup, releasing a colorful and (mostly) eager crowd of kids. The Blossburg Police stood post on Carpenter Street, helping keep pedestrians safe. Back at home, parents sighed, smiled, and enjoyed a quiet cup of coffee.
On September 19, there will be a 5K race to benefit the pool renovations. The entry fee is $15.You or your business can be an official sponsor of this event by donating $50 or more.
