Belated birthday greetings go out to three Blossburg residents: Andy Levindoski's birthday was on August 2, while Cassie Dickinson and Ryan Schultz celebrated on August 9. We hope you all had a great day!
Several of our neighbors are recuperating from surgery. Chet Tokarz had a knee replacement, and would like to receive cards and other well-wishes. His address is 4290 Bloss Mountain Road, Blossburg, PA 16912. Sandy Roupp of Arnot had a hip replacement and is doing very well. It was wonderful to see her smile back in church this week! Irma Cretsinger from Morris Run is still struggling through a prolonged recovery after her medical difficulties. If you know Irma, stop and see her for a few minutes, and please keep her in your thoughts and prayers.
We extend sympathies to Ralph and Sandy Mundis. Ralph's mother passed away last week, prolonging their stay in Harrisburg. If you'd like to send them a card, their address is 111 McIntyre St., Blossburg, PA 16912.
The Siloa Lutheran Church of Morris Run will be having a chicken barbeque this Saturday, August 22, in the parking lot of the Bloss Holiday Market. Halves and dinners will be available beginning at 9:30. The Kiwanis are hosting this sale. While you're getting your delicious chicken, don't forget to make a stop at the Farmer's Market at the other end of the plaza parking lot.
The 2009-2010 school year is about to begin. The first day of school for the Southern Tioga School District is Monday, August 24. Throughout the past week, the bandfront was seen practicing on the lawn of the North Penn High School. The playground at the Blossburg Elementary School is in the midst of major construction. Parents and kids are checking the site daily with hopes of seeing some new equipment put into place.
The Back-To-School Bash, which was held August 16 at Island Park, was a roaring success. It was reported that more than 200 children received school supplies, and the crowd quickly ate 300 hot dogs! The steamy weather kept the swimming pool busy, and everyone seemed to have a terrific day.
Due to the arrival of the long-awaited summer weather, the Bloss Pool staff has decided to keep the facility open this week, rather than close it to begin renovations. If you plan to swim this week, you should call 638-5501 before you go, to make sure the pool is open.
On September 19, there will be a 5K race to benefit the pool renovations. The entry fee is $15.You or your business can be an official sponsor of this event by donating $50 or more. Your name will appear on the official race T-shirt, and you will receive one or more free shirts, depending upon the size of your contribution. Contact Pete Hall at the pool or call Susan Blackwell at 638-1210 for more information.
The Blossburg Memorial Library has a vast collection of DVDs that you can take home to watch for free. The library is open from noon until 8:00 PM Monday through Thursday, noon until 5:00 PM Friday, and 8:00 AM until 3:00 PM on Saturdays.
