Several Blossburg area residents are recovering from surgeries and would appreciate some get-well cards and phone calls. Sandy Roupp of Arnot is recovering at home following her hip replacement surgery. Ross reports that she is doing very well and would love to have visitors and phone calls. Her phone number is 638-2083. Chet Tokarz had a knee replacement last week. He expects to go home on Thursday. You may send cards to him at 4290 Bloss Mountain Road. Erma Cretsinger of Morris Run continues to struggle through her recovery. Lewis says that rainy days cause her much pain and progress seems slow. Please keep Erma in your thought and prayers.
This will be an exciting weekend at the Bloss Pool. On Friday at 6:00 PM, kids ages 14 and younger can participate in the Island Park Swim Meet. They can compete for prizes in relay races, backstroke, butterfly, and more. Kickboards will be available for younger swimmers. Sign up for this event at the pool.
On Saturday, come to the park to watch the Cardboard Boat Regatta will be held at the pool on August 15 at 1:00 PM. Each team must construct a human-powered boat that can hold 2 to 4 crew members for the race. Get a list of rules at the pool and start building your yacht!
Finally, on Sunday, come to Island Park for the 4th Annual Back-To-School Bash. There will be free food, music, and swimming. School-age kids can get free school supplies; in past years, children received very nice backpacks filled with notebooks, writing instruments, and more. Don’t miss this once-a-year opportunity. Following the Bash, the pool will be closed for the year, so that renovations may begin. Next year, the pool will be bigger, better, and accessible to the handicapped.
Reverend John and Linda Shypulefski of the First Baptist Church of Blossburg are on vacation with their family this week. Pastor Ron Hager from Millerton delivered an inspiring sermon. It was good to see the Hager family again.
The storm that blew through town on Sunday was, thankfully, not as severe as predicted. Storm reports in Blossburg included some debris in the streets, several larger branches in lawns, and some garden damage. In Covington, a large tree fell at the home of Mike Fiske. He stated that damage to his home seems to be minor, but his camper was demolished.
Sleezy Construction will be hosting a chicken barbeque in the parking lot of the Bloss Holiday Market on Saturday, August 15, beginning at 10:30. This sale will benefit the Blossburg First United Methodist Church. While you’re getting your chicken, browse through the Farmers Market in Riverside Plaza to see what fresh food, plants, and more are being offered this week.
Also on Saturday, Cub Scout Pack 2059 and Boy Scout Troop 68 will be having a car wash at the Acorn Market in Blossburg from 10:00 until 2:00. This event is being held to earn money for their trip to the Little League World Series, where they will be presenting the colors at the Little League World Series! This is a terrific honor that the Scouts have earned, and they would greatly appreciate your support.
The 2009 Alumni Reunion of North Penn High School was a great success. It was a beautiful day, and attendance was high. Pictures of the event have been posted on Blossburg.org.
