It's a week for celebrations in Blossburg! Birthdays this week include: Tom Dickinson (North Penn's football coach) on the 19th; Freece Morris on the 20th -- he is 92!; Harriet Higgins of Covington, who turned 91 on the 20th; and Jerry Onks, who will have a birthday on the 25th.

There are two anniversaries to note this week. Tom and Sonja Dickinson will be celebrating 21 years of marriage on July 23. On the 28th, Uni and Shane Hicks-Lee will be celebrating their 20th anniversary. Happy birthday or anniversary to you all.

Congratulations to the Pidas on their golden anniversary! Former Blossburg residents, John and Helen Pida (Pida's Pharmacy, now Lemon's) were married in Elkland, Pa on July 25, 1949. A Mass of thanksgiving and renewal of their wedding vows was held at Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Montoursville on June 21st. Former Pastor of St. Andrew's church in Blossburg, Rev.Fr.Jim McGahagan was the principal celebrant.

On Tuesday, Sandy Roupp of Arnot had hip replacement surgery. She expects to be in the hospital for three or four days, and has asked for your prayers during her recuperation. You may send your cards or calls to: Sandy Roupp, 163 Chestnut St., Blossburg, PA 16912, 638-2083.

A chicken barbeque will be held on Saturday, July 25, beginning at 10:30 AM in the parking lot of Bloss Holiday Market. Halves are $6, dinners are $7. This Kiwanis event benefits the Siloa Lutheran Church.

Also on Saturday morning, stop by the Farmers' Market at the other end of the plaza parking lot. You can find bargains on plants, handcrafts, and more. There is room for more vendors who want to sell locally grown or picked produce, baked goods, plants, syrups, honey, handmade crafts, etc. Contact Tonya at 638-3112 or mcnamara@epix.net for more information.

On July 26, the First Baptist Church of Blossburg will be celebrating "Christmas in July." The worship service, which will include "seasonal" hymns, begins at 9:00 AM. Following the service, there will be Christmas treats and punch. Stay for Sunday School at 10:30; there are groups for all ages. Call Barb at 570-656-6597 for more information or if you need a ride.

The Blossburg Memorial Library will be holding its annual Garden Party at the Hamilton Club in Morris Run on Sunday, July 26 from 1:00 until 4:00. There will be garden tours, music by Bob Dunham, and delicious food --tortilla roll-ups, stuffed mushrooms, ham and spinach quiche, pork wonton cups, mozzarella bruschetta, chicken kebabs and more! Come to Bingo every Monday evening at Saint Mary's Hall in Blossburg. Games are from 6:30 until 10:00 PM.

The Blossburg-North Penn Alumni Association Reunion will be held Saturday, August 1, beginning at 3:30 PM at the Blossburg Fire Hall. Because this event is catered and seating is limited, we ask that you make reservations. If you are planning to attend, please contact Bev at 638-2763.
