This week, birthday greetings go out to Sue Hadley of Blossburg. If you see this wonderful community member, wish her a great day! Does someone you know have a birthday, anniversary, or other “brag event” to announce in this column? Send the information to barb_slocum@hotmail.com or call 570-656-6597 and let us know what’s happening.
Congratulations to Jim McIntosh, who has been named St. John Neumann’s Rookie Bingo Worker of the Year! He was selected for this award by his peers, due to his contagious enthusiasm. All of the Bingo workers volunteer many hours for a good cause; thank you all.
This is the final week of school for the Southern Tioga School District. Can you believe another year has passed already? Soon, there will be many kids enjoying the summer by engaging in outdoor activities. Let's all be alert while driving, so that everyone can have a safe season.
One activity that people of all ages can be involved in is the Blossburg Memorial Library's exciting summer reading program. It will be from June 16th through July 21st. The theme is “Be Creative @ Your Library.” Each Tuesday at 10:00 AM, there will be fun activities such as music, painting, scrapbooking, photography, computer graphics, martial arts, and more! Call the library at 638-2197 for more information, or visit http://www.blossburgmemoriallibrary.com to register online. You can use this program to teach others about one of your talents or hobbies, too. Contact Shelby at the library to find out how to be a part of the program.
Another annual summer tradition is Vacation Bible School. Several churches in Blossburg conduct VBS each year. There have been rumors that the First Baptist Church will be transformed into a forest campground in a few weeks! Child Evangelism Fellowship hosts a week-long day camp at Nauvoo, with bus service for participating children. For more information, contact 724-4591.
The swimming pool at Island Park opens on June 5. Season passes are $50/single, $90/family. Get your passes today; after June 12, the price increases to $60/single and $120/family.
It’s nearly time for the 21st annual reunion of Blossburg and North Penn High Schools. Classes ending in “4” and “9” will receive special recognition. For the schedule of events on Saturday, August 1, go to http://blossburg.org/alumni/09invite.pdf.
If you have something you would like to submit for the Blossburg News & Views column, send it to barb_slocum@hotmail.com, or call Barb at 570-656-6597. If you would like your organization's event posted on the Blossburg web site, send an email to events@blossburg.org. Include the date, time, location, and some information about the event. To have your community event advertised on the large sign by the green bridge, submit information two weeks in advance to: sign@blossburg.org.
We want more news! To submit a birthday or anniversary greeting, a community event, or any other item for publication, send items to news@blossburg.org, or call Barb Slocum at 570-656-6597. Until next time, have a wonderful week.
