Happy birthday to Patty Onks and Kyle Davy! Patty's birthday is on June 20, and Kyle will celebrate on June 22. If you see either of these area residents, wish them a great day.
Hey, kids -- now that school is out for the summer, are you looking for things to do? Come to the First Baptist Church at the corner of Carpenter Street and Main Street (across the street from the bank). From June 21st until the 25th, you can join the fun of SonRock Kids Camp! Check out their living indoor forest, sing some songs, and enjoy tasty camp snacks. Get soaked during the water games and take home a fun craft. Learn about Jesus' love for us, and how we can go to Heaven to live with Him. The entire program is FREE of charge. Kids who will be entering Kindergarten next August, through those who have just completed 6th grade will meet from 6:00 until 8:30 each evening. Call 570-656-6597 for more information, or to register. Don't miss this exciting week!
Another activity you can get in on is the Summer Reading Program at the Blossburg Memorial Library. "Be Creative @ Your Library" begins June 16, and runs through July 21. Each Tuesday at 10:00 AM, you can take part in an activity (scrapbooking, photography, martial arts, etc.), make crafts, watch movies, and of course, read books. Stop in the library or call 638-2197 today.
We had a celebrity in Blossburg last week. Assistant U.S. Attorney James Pavlock from Philadelphia came to town on a family research quest. Hs grandfather and great-grandfather Pawlak were original members of Saint Mary's Church. Attorney Pavlock toured the church and the town. He visited with several parishioners, who were able to answer some of his family questions. Mr. Pavlock remarked that we have a very friendly community, and he appreciated those citizens who spent some of their time helping him. He is looking forward to returning for further research, and we will be happy to welcome him back.
Cub Scout Pack 2059 of Arnot will be presenting colors at the opening Ceremony for the Williamsport Crosscutters on June 20, 2009. This is quite an honor, and we are very proud of our Scouts! This Pack will be having a bike-a-thon to raise funds for their "Kids Helping Kids" Charity Drive on June 27, at the Blossburg Elementary School, beginning at 10:00 AM. We encourage the community to come out and support our Cub Scouts. If you would like to sponsor one of our kids, please contact Lorraine Thompson @ 570-723-0916 or e-mail lorthomp@ptd.net. All proceeds will go to Bloss Township Recreation Center.
A Rail Trail Relay Rally will take place on June 28th at the Darling Run entrance to the Rail Trail in Ansonia. All procedes benefit the American Cancer Society. In return for your $10 donation, you will receive a t-shirt and lunch. If you are interested in hiking or biking for this event, please contact Liz at Wild Asaph Outfitters at 724-5155.
The next chicken barbeque in Blossburg will be held on June 27. Sleezy Construction will cook the halves, which will be sold in the Bloss Holiday Market parking lot, beginning at 10:30 AM. Proceeds of this barbeque will benefit V.I.B.E., which has become a vital part of the Blossburg community. While you're getting your barbequed chicken, browse through the Farmer's Market, also located in the Plaza parking lot. Fresh produce, home-made treats, and other interesting items are offered by local vendors at terrific prices. The market is open every Saturday, from 8 until 1.
