Blossburg News & Views
By Barb Slocum

When you see Margaret Onks on May 7, wish her a happy birthday! Another person who would appreciate your greetings is Irma Cretsinger. She is still recuperating from a fall that was complicated by several other health problems. She had been making progress; however, she seems to have reached a rough patch in the road. Many caring people have sent her cards and flowers during the past couple of months. These thoughtful items have helped to encourage her, but right now she could use another round of cheering up. Her address is: Irma Cretsinger, Kramm Health Care and Rehab Center, 743 Mahoning St., Milton, PA 17847.

It has been wonderful to see all the Springtime flowers bursting open, and to smell the perfumes wafting on the warm breeze. Now that the growing season is upon us, there has been an increase in activity at the Blossburg Community Garden. A new sign has been erected at the corner of Main Street and Reese Lane to mark the garden's location. The garden provides space for people who need "growing room." Plots in the garden are currently available for a very low rental fee. Get yours today by contacting mcnamara@epix.net.

The Blossburg Ambulance Association will be holding an Open House on Saturday, May 9, from 2-4pm. Come to the Blossburg Fire Hall to see the vehicles and equipment. Meet some of the great volunteers who give freely of their time and energy. Stop by to see the results of 60 years of incorporation!

While you're in town, pick up some barbequed chicken at the Bloss Holiday Market. Sleezy Construction will be doing the cooking, and sales benefit the North Penn High School Yearbook Committee. Chicken halves and dinners will be sold from 10:30 until noon.

May 9 is also the day for TCCCC and Hillside Rod & Gun Club's annual stream and roadside cleanup. The groups will meet at the Hillside Rod & Gun Club parking lot at 8:00 AM. From there, they will travel to various locations in the area. Lunch will be provided for all attendees.

The deadline for registering for the May 16 Blossburg Town-Wide Yard Sale is just days away! Call Barb Slocum at 570-656-6597 to have your sale listed on the map. By doing so, you will increase the number of shoppers who will be aware of your location. The map will be distributed free to bargain hunters who come to town for the event.

Another event on May 16 is the Longaberger Basket Bingo at St. John Neumann's church (formerly St. Mary's). Come on up to win your share of over $1500 of baskets and goodies. $20 (tickets available at Blossburg Library) buys a stack of Bingo cards; you then play until all the baskets are awarded. You can even win multiple times! Doors open at 10:00 AM, games begin at 11:00 AM. Food, desserts, and beverages will be available for purchase.

Advanced Beginner Yoga classes begin on May 12 and continue on Tuesdays for 6 weeks. Class meets at the Town Hall Building beside Acorn Market on Main Street. The cost is $60. Contact Kathleen at 660-5873 or mainstreetyoga@gmail.com

There are two meetings taking place in Blossburg on Monday, May 11, from 6:30 – 8:00 PM. The Blossburg Borough Council will gather in the Borough Building at 245 Main St. Just a block away, the Southern Tioga School District Board of Education will hold its regular meeting at the North Penn High School auditorium. Both meetings are open to the public. Attend one of the meetings, so that you can be an informed citizen.

The Blossburg Memorial Library will be having a book sale on May 23, from 9:00 AM until 1:00 PM. There will be many new fiction books for sale. Come on in and find some great bargains!

The next VIBE meeting will be held Wednesday, May 27, int the Kiwanis Building at Island Park, from 6:00 – 7:00 PM. Last month, a representative from Frontier Communications was present to discuss expansion and improvement of the Blossburg Freenet, a free internet service available at various locations throughout town. To learn more about VIBE's current activities, come to the meeting. These meetings are open to the public and free refreshments are served.
