Happy 4th anniversary to Matthew and Marjorie Taylor. Marjorie lived in Pennsylvania most of her life, but moved to California in 2005. Two years later, she and her new husband returned home to Tioga County. Welcome back, and we wish you a special anniversary on Memorial Day!

The North Penn High School recently held its Junior Prom. The Queen and King were Sapphire Maccain and Carl Wickman. Proud parents have been seen around town showing off photos of their young men and women dressed in their classy outfits.

Last Saturday’s town-wide yard sale was a big hit! There were many cars in town, and several people were quite happy with the number of items they sold. The weather was warm and sunny until the mid-afternoon storms rolled through. Based on the success stories, this is certain to become an annual event.

Speaking of weather, have you prepared your garden and begun planting yet? If you would like a raised-box plot in the Blossburg Community Garden, contact Tonya at mcnamara@epix.net. The rental fee is very affordable, and the garden is conveniently located beside the green bridge, across from the fire hall.

The Blossburg Memorial Library will be having a book sale on May 23, from 9:00 AM until 1:00 PM. There will be many new fiction books for sale. Come browse on the lawn and find some great bargains!

Get ready for an action-packed week in Blossburg; it’s time for the Coal Festival! The carnival begins Wednesday evening a 6:00. The parade will be held Saturday at 11:00. The park will be full of vendors, activities, food and fun! Don’t miss the Laurel Youth Services 5K Race at 9:00 AM on Saturday. The course begins at Island Park, winds through town, and ends at the park. The race is open to all ages, and costs only $15 to enter. Proceeds benefit a scholarship for Laurel Youth Sevices. For more information, call Susan Blackwell at 638-1210, or visit http://www.laurelhs.org/news/article.asp?id=2080

The next VIBE meeting will be held Wednesday, May 27, in the Kiwanis Building at Island Park, from 6:00 – 7:00 PM. Last month, a representative from Frontier Communications was present to discuss expansion and improvement of the Blossburg Freenet, a free internet service available at various locations throughout town. To learn more about VIBE's current activities, come to the meeting. These meetings are open to the public and free refreshments are served. Visit http://www.blossburg.org/vibe for more information about this active group.

It’s nearly time for the 21st annual reunion of Blossburg and North Penn High Schools. Classes ending in “4” and “9” will receive special recognition. For the schedule of events on Saturday, August 1, go to http://blossburg.org/alumni/09invite.pdf.
