Blossburg News & Views
By Barb Slocum

With all the great weather we've been having, you can't help but have an outdoor frame of mind! Come outdoors with us for the Island Park Spring Cleanup on Saturday, May 2. Beginning at 8:00 AM, we'll rake, pick up trash, and generally tidy up in order to get the park ready for all the upcoming community activities and sports. Bring garden tools, shovels, rakes, gloves, etc. Rain date is May 9. Contact the Blossburg Borough Office at 638-2452 with any questions.

Another fair-weather opportunity available for your enjoyment is the Blossburg Community Garden. The garden group recently hosted an outing to a local gardening business. They were offered information about how to create a highly productive garden, and they were given plenty of free seeds! A trip to Rockwell's Feeds and greenhouse in Wellsboro is being considered. The garden provides space for people who need "growing room." Plots in the garden are currently available for a small rental fee. Get yours today by contacting mcnamara@epix.net.

The phone calls are pouring in for the May 16 town-wide yard sale in Blossburg. For no charge, your sale can be shown on a map that will be given to shoppers on that day. To have your sale added to this map, call Barb Slocum at 570-656-6597 by Friday, May 8.

May 16 is also the date of the Longaberger Basket Bingo at St. John Neumann's church (formerly St. Mary's). Come on up to win your share of over $1500 of baskets and goodies. $20 (tickets available at Blossburg Library) buys a stack of Bingo cards; you then play until all the baskets are awarded. You can even win multiple times! Doors open at 10:00 AM, games begin at 11:00 AM. Food, desserts, and beverages will be available for purchase.

Irma Cretsinger is continuing to improve. She is able to get around a bit, and can do some things by herself. She has an evaluation coming up. Pray that this cherished friend and neighbor keeps making steady progress.

Advanced Beginner Yoga classes begin on May 12 and continue on Tuesdays for 6 weeks. Class meets at the Town Hall Building beside Acorn Market on Main Street. The cost is $60. Contact Kathleen at 660-5873 or mainstreetyoga@gmail.com

The Kiwanis are hosting a chicken barbeque on Saturday, May 2, in front of the Bloss Holiday Market. This event will benefit the local Relay For Life team. Come down and get some delicious chicken and help a great cause.

The Blossburg Memorial Library will be having a book sale on May 23, from 9:00 AM until 1:00 PM. There will be many new fiction books for sale.
