Starting in May, the Treasury will begin sending economic stimulus payments to more than 130 million households. To receive a payment, taxpayers must have a valid Social Security number, $3,000 of income and file a 2007 federal tax return. IRS will take care of the rest. Eligible people will receive up to $600 ($1,200 for married couples), and parents will receive an additional $300 for each eligible child younger than 17. Millions of retirees, disabled veterans and low-wage workers who usually are exempt from filing a tax return must do so this year in order to receive a stimulus payment.
Look what is happening in Arnot! The Bloss Township Recreation Committee with the help of the Arnot Citizens committee has created a community building in the old Arnot School House. The building is open Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 4 till 8 for fun and games and can be rented for parties, reunions, etc. We have video games, basketball games, air hockey, ping-pong, pool table, and foosball, jukebox, drinks and snacks. Also we have a sink, refrigerator and two microwaves. At least one man and one woman supervise the center when it is open. All surrounding communities are invited to come and enjoy. We have upgraded the building as per the PA building code to be handicap accessible including men and women's bathrooms. We are planning many special nights like dances, movie nights, and adult nights the list goes on. Watch our sign for these coming events. Rental fees to rent the building for the day are $50.00 plus a $25.00 deposit to be returned if the building is left as you found it. For information call (570) 638-2291 and ask for Ted. Driver Education at NPHS began with a bang but, fortunately, not in the literal sense! In late August as we returned to school, 10th grade students began learning about the various driving laws, traffic signs and important vehicle maneuvers. Many were busy preparing for permits and some even driving licenses which can only reinforce the importance of Driver Education as it relates to our students “on the road”. As the course progressed, the students were introduced to vocabulary terms, traffic signs and signals, research papers, and even visits from the state police and an expert on school bus safety. Many are excited about participating in the summer driving program which will allow them to get “behind the wheel” experience which is so important to becoming a safe driver. Please encourage your young drivers to take driving seriously as fatal car crashes are the number one cause of teenage deaths in our state.
