Happy birthday to Glenn Lattimer and his nephew, Wyatt Onks. They share a birthday on March 12th. Belated birthday wishes to John Onks, Wyatt's father, whose birthday was March 7th.

The next meeting of the Tioga County Concerned Citizens Committee (TCCCC) will be on Tuesday, March 17, at 7:00 PM, in the Kiwanis Building at Island Park in Blossburg. TCCCC, along with its partners, Hillside Rod and Gun Club, Mansfield University, and the Tiadaghton Chapter of Trout Unlimimted, have been awarded a Growing Greener Grant. They will use the $295,000 to treat acid deposition in the headwaters of Fall Brook, which flows into the Tioga River. This project includes two high-flow buffer channels, which increase the alkalinity of the stream. Another part of the project includes the addition of limestone to roads and drainiage ditches in Ward Township and and along State Forest roads. The Bureau of Forestry volunteered labor and equipment to spread the limestone.
TCCCC has also been involved in other activities and issues that concern the preservation of our local environment. Come to the meeting on the 17th, and see what they are doing!

Signs of Spring are appearing in Blossburg! The Canadian geese are on the move, several species of songbirds have returned to the area, and opossums and skunks have been 'out and about.' Perhaps the most relied-upon sign of Spring's impending arrival is the return of the robins. I am glad to report that robins have been heard and sighted for the past week or more. Come on, Spring!

Mark your calendar for the 21st annual reunion of graduates and attendees of the Blossburg and North Penn High School. The reunion will be on Saturday, August 1, 2009. Members of classes ending in "4" and "9" are especially urged to attend. To make sure your current name and address are correct on the Alumni Association’s list, go to http://www.blossburg.org/alumni and send your information. Mark "yes" if you would like your name added to the alumni directory.
