The varsity football team ended the season with 4 wins and 6 losses. However, they finished in fine fashion with the last two games being victories over Montgomery and arch rival Wellsboro. The victory over Wellsboro was exceptionally good because the Green Hornets were heavily favored to win and advance to District IV playoffs. The loss knocked them out of not only the District IV, but also the Eastern Conference playoffs. The Panthers were led by seniors Bryce Weaver, Nick Bowne, Dane Kurzejewski, John Lamonski, Kyle Atkinson, Justin Harris and Jesse Kriner. Randon Wilston also kicked his first field goal as a football kicker.
The Class of 2008 is busy raising money for their senior class trip. This class has been planning a big trip since their junior high years. They will be going to the Los Angeles area of California in May of 2009. While in CA the students will visit Hollywood, Beverley Hills, Santa Monica, and the Block at Orange. So far the class has raised $15,000 towards this trip. Congratulations and remember 180 days until TAKE OFF!
Dane Kurzejewski, a senior, has been selected by the faculty and staff at North Penn High School to be honored by the Blossburg Kiwanis Club as the Student of the Month for October. He is the son of David and Gloria Kurzejewski of Covington. Dane is a member of Key Club, National Honor Society, and Student Council. As an athlete at North Penn, he has lettered in football, basketball, and track and field. He is a coach for elementary basketball and volunteers at Special Olympics. He also is a candidate for the 2008 Youth Leader of Tomorrow. Dane enjoys riding and showing horses and is a member of the National Quarter Horse Association. Upon graduation from NPHS, Dane plans to attend a 4-year college majoring in business.
Blossburg Elementary School teachers, staff and administrators enjoy sponsoring Family Night Events three times each year. Our Family Nights are held in the evening so children and families can attend. Our theme for the first event of the 2007 school year was storytelling. It is important to share a meal each day with your family. Families attending agreed that it is important to turn off the television and share stories about each family member’s day. Mrs. Martha Bastian shared some interesting stories about life in Blossburg during the thirties and forties. In order to preserve our family histories, we suggested families write down some stories. Each child received a “Build-A-Book” packet purchased with grant money from the state and local teacher’s union. The families enjoyed making a special book with each child. We hope you can join us for our next two Blossburg Elementary Family Nights. It is a fun time for all ages. Watch for the upcoming dates this school year.
