Get well: Dick Carey and Ty Foulkrod ,

Nov. 11 Veteran's Day, is the anniversary of the Armistice which was signed in the Forest of Compiegne by the Allies and the Germans in 1918, ending World War I, after four years of conflict. In November of 1919, President Woodrow Wilson issued his Armistice Day proclamation. The last paragraph set the tone for future observances: To us in America, the reflections of Armistice Day will be filled with solemn pride in the heroism of those who died in the country's service and with gratitude for the victory, both because of the thing from which it has freed us and because of the opportunity it has given America to show her sympathy with peace and justice in the councils of the nation. This was submitted by Charles and Crescence Boinske:
We wish to announce the birth of our great grandson Cooper Charles Boinske born 10/30/05. His proud parents; A. Damon and Lindy Boinske of Presque Isle, Maine and grandparents Phillip Boinske Sr and Tonie and Mike Hall of Blossburg.

This information concerning Ty Foulkrod was provided by his cousin Dan Foulkrod. Ty, a senior at Liberty High School and a member of North Penn Panther football was recently injured in an automobile accident. "First and foremost, the family of Ty Foulkrod would like to thank everybody for their prayers and support during this hard time. Ty has just gone through about 9 hours of surgery on 10/31/05 for the support of his upper body. The surgery went well, and he will be recovering over the next few weeks. He will be going through recovery time in which he will move to different areas of the hospital, and hopefully soon, he will be able to have more of his friends come and see him. The family would also like to add that all the treatment Ty is receiving at Geisinger Hospital is top notch. They have done such a great job. After his stay at the Geisinger Hospital, Ty will be moved to The Magee Rehabilitation Hospital in Philadelphia where he will be for a few months."

The Morton Jones Trophy is back in the NPHS display case; at least for another year. The Panthers beat the Wellsboro Hornets by a score of 42-0 on Nov. 4. The night was a rollercoaster of events with 3 injured players, a huge 50/50 payout , a tribute to the Jr High and Screaming Eagles football teams and the biggest 'hornet' you've ever seen. Cody Groover #25, Levi Weiskopf #45 and Mark Berguson #70 all suffered injuries and had to be taken out of the game. The Gridiron Club's 50/50 was at a high for the season; $1,145 with the Club's half going to the family of Ty Foulkrod to help offset his mounting medical bills. The winner of the raffle also donated a portion of their winnings toward the bills. The crowd was also pleased to learn that the Jr High team ended their season undefeated while the Screaming Eagles won all their games but one. At halftime we were entertained as a 'player' swatted a 'hornet' with his 6' flyswatter. All in all it was definitely a night to remember for players, coaches and fans alike.

As part of a new feature of Blossburg News and Views we will spotlight a different business or service provided in and around the town of Blossburg. The Window Box Flower Shop is pleased to announce that they will be moving back to their original location at 242 Main Street. They anticipate the shop being operational by Nov. 11. The business had been forced to change locations due to a fire that had also damaged several other businesses. The Window Box has been owned and operated for 7 years by Kathy Hemling, and Tom and Marge Holley. They are a flower and gift shop that offers fresh, silk and dried flower arrangements plus seasonal plants. Delivery is provided to most of Tioga County and costs $1.50 - $5.00 depending on the area serviced. Hours of operation are 8am-5pm Monday through Friday and 8am to noon on Saturday and they can be reached by calling 638-3662 or 2758 after hours.
