25 days till Christmas!

Let's keep our service men and women in our thoughts and prayers during this Holiday Season. The American Legion Post 572 would like to send care packages to local service members currently serving our country; they are asking the community to provide them with names and addresses. Send service member's name and address to James Holleman, 119 Granger St. or Sally Ward, 222 N. Williamson Rd., Blossburg, PA 16912. Along with the name, if you know of a small item they would like and could be mailed, please make a note of it and send with their address.

Blossburg VIBE is pleased to announce their "Light up the Holidays!" event and contest.

The "Light up the Holidays!" event will begin with the Tree Lighting Ceremony on Sunday, December 4, 2005 at 5:00 pm near the town's unique green bridge and will be hosted by Blossburg VIBE. It continues with a visit from Santa who is expected to be there to celebrate with us as we light up our town for the holidays. Food and drinks will be available. We are also hoping to hear our local churches choirs' voices to honor the Christmas spirit. Also everyone is encouraged to bring a donation of canned food to assist the local food bank this holiday season. A door prize will be given to one lucky adult and to one lucky child. Beautiful luminaries will be made by the children at Toddler University Daycare and Preschool, Inc. to be held by everyone at the tree lighting ceremony to "Light up the Holidays" in Blossburg. Anyone who would like to help us with decorating, assisting at the Tree Lighting Ceremony with snacks and drinks or interested in donating items or helping in any other way are asked to contact Lonny Frost at 638-2861. Let Blossburg "Light Up the Holidays!"

Pictures with Santa will be taken on Dec. 10 from 10am-12pm and 1pm-3pm at the Blossburg Memorial Library. There will be snacks with Santa's Elves, gifts from Santa and Holiday activities. Pictures are $5 each. Santa will arrive at 10am via fire truck!

One of the Founders of Southern Tioga Youth Football, Mark Mundis, passed away peacefully on Sept. 26, 2005 after a life-long battle with Juvenile Diabetes.
Mark had a vision for many years to start a youth football program in our area. Mark was instrumental in the formation of the Northern Tier Youth Football League, of which he served as Secretary for many years. Mark, together with Tom Mahosky of Blossburg, and other dedicated people within the community, formed STYF in 1998. Mark devoted his adult life to the youth sports programs in Blossburg serving as wrestling coach, baseball coach, and STYF Board Member for many years. To those of you who knew Mark, you knew he was a man who was dedicated to enlightening children's lives with the gift of sport. He was a loving son, brother, husband, and father; a great coach and a wonderful person and friend. He will be sadly and deeply missed. Mark was an enormous asset to the Blossburg Community and his great work will never be forgotten. Mark family has graciously given all donations in his name to STYF, the organization Mark helped build from the ground up. We thank Mark's family for their generosity and want them to know that the heart and soul of Mark Mundis lives on forever within Southern Tioga Youth Football. With the money that has been collected from the Memorial donations, STYF has started the annual "Mark Mundis Memorial Outstanding Sportsmanship Award." This award is given to one member on each football team who exemplified total sportsmanship throughout the year. Each winner is given a plaque as well as their name displayed on the plaques which are hanging in Blossburg Elementary School. We want to thank Mark's family for graciously donating the funds to start this honorary award in Mark's name.
