Southern Tioga teachers ask for time to consider pay freeze

BLOSSBURG - Though they all seemed to agree that a pay freeze is justified in the harsh economic climate Pennsylvania school districts find themselves in, Southern Tioga School District teachers who spoke to the school board Monday night also all seemed to agree that a Thursday deadline to decide was too much to ask.

Southern Tioga meeting produces no answers

BLOSSBURG - With a May 9 board meeting coming up fast, the Southern Tioga School District board must find a way to raise the money it needs to close its $2.5 million deficit, or it will have to go through with the cuts that it tabled at an April 11 board meeting.

During a community budget meeting held Wednesday, many community members offered their suggestions to six board members as to how to resolve the budget crisis created by Gov. Tom Corbett's proposed billion dollar school funding cut for next year's budget.

STSD public meet is tonight; SOS meetings are May 3, 4 & 5

Tonight, Wednesday, April 20, at 6:30 p.m., Southern Tioga School District Superintendent Keith Yarger and members of the Southern Tioga School Board are hosting a Community Budget Meeting at the North Penn High School Auditorium in Blossburg.

The School District is holding this meeting. It is NOT a Board meeting. All District residents are welcome to attend. The purpose of this meeting is to give residents an opportunity to make suggestions as to what the District can do to balance its 2011-2012 budget.
